Patch 1.0.4 introduces hero levels: the Paragon system
The patch 1.0.4 hype machine has been going non-stop for the last two weeks. One thing is all the 1.0.4 changes to the classes that have been announced, another are the huge buffs to legendary items or the system changes to loot, mob health and enrage timers. Those were enough to get me excited about patch 1.0.4….but there is so much more to it; including a new endgame!
Paragon levels ensure you will have plenty of leveling to do
The big surprise for me today was the introduction of hero levels, or rather Paragon levels.
A few weeks ago there was talk about changing the MF system. There were a number of options the community was asked about and then everything was promptly forgotten. It turns out, that there were powerful forces working in the background. Working to eventually phase out the importance of MF. This is essentially what paragonlevels do: they add normal stats, like a level, and then they add 3% MF and GF per paragonlevel.

Paragon levels in Diablo 3 are a way to eventually lessen the importance of MF. It’s a long way off, though!
At the same time MF will be capped at 300%, before Nephalem Valor. This means you can have a maximum MF of 375% with a full nephalem valor stack.
How fast do you gain Diablo 3 paragon levels?
It’s been said that the first paragon level will take the same time as the time from 59-60. In addition it will take longer and longer to reach the maximum level of 100:
It will take around 1.3 million level 63 mobs killed to reached level 100. You kill around 50k mobs per 100 hours in normal play. This means it will take 2600 hours to get to max. If you play 4 hours a day and farm normally, you will get to 100 in 650 days. Taking in to account holidays, sickness and personal events, you are looking at a good 2 years of play. Playing 12 hours a day, like some people do, will get you to 100 in 217 days.
Making money on diablo 3 patch 1.0.4
The good thing is that +experience gear will work with paragon levels. So something like rubies has exploded in price. I don’t think we will see it go much higher, but we will see a strong demand for gems over the next couple of days, when more and more people discover paragon levels and that +XP and rubies work with them. Be on the look out for cheap experience gear and clean out your stash of gems.
Now, the buffs to legendaries have also raised the price of crafting materials. Firey brimstone has doubled in price over the last week or two, and I do think this one has a bit more juice in it. When we get the full effect of the patch and everyone starts finding out about crafted legendaries, we will see a boost in the price of infernal crafting materials, like firey brimstone.
Patch 1.0.4 improves the D3 AH
There are a number key changes to the functionality of the AH:
- You can now cancel your auctions at any time.
- You can now search for 6 stats.
- There is now a +damage stat, which is the averaged out +dam of the interval.
- Gold can now be sold as low as $0.25 per million.
I am especially excited about the gold selling, since you can now actually maybe make some money doing gold arbitrage, or buying and selling gold.
Check out the full patch notes and join the discussion on the D3 farming Facebook page, which is almost pushing 1000 members….so you gotta be quick to be one of the select first thousand!

Yeah… but the price of gold tanked and the making a larger profit from selling gold is no longer viable when they take 30% considering it’s actually cheaper right now on the AH than on the farming sites.
yeah, it is a bit all over the place. Just today I have seen it go from 0.55EUR to 0.75EUR per million. That is almost a 50% difference. The goldselling sites have also raised their prices to around 0.7EUR per million. It’ll be exciting to see where we end up.
Nephalem stacks also increase the XP gained so I think it will actually take less to get to 100. I’m willing to bet though that plenty of bots will reach 100 in a very short time.
It is because of this kind of blog pretending that the crafted legendaries are going to be uber strong post patch and the price of crafting commodities will go through the roof. It is the absolute contrary that happen. First the crafted have very low chance to roll good stats. Secondly everyone has been following this astrological prediction of the increase of price of the craft commodities and everyone bought tons of it and now the market is over-saturated with theses commodities and people compete to loose money. It is funny to see casual players trying to be traders on Diablo 3.
