Getting D3 gold by using gold find to its fullest
This is so simple, yet so insanely powerful. It’s one of those things, where you think to yourself:”Why didn’t I think of that sooner?”.
During my usual tour of the internet, I found this little gem. It’s a way to get gold without any in-game effort, and since it doesn’t involve killing stuff, you can focus on getting a decent set of gold find gear with gold find as the only stat. So load up on blue gold find gear and get comfortable, because this is going to get you gold, but it might cost you your sanity.
Visiting Vidar in Bastion’s Keep
I have mentioned Vidar in Bastion’s Keep before, in my gold farming guide, where you end your run at him to sell your ill-gotten gains. I have always run to him for some reason, and not to the other merchants, but a big part of the draw, has certainly been the free money at his feet.
This chest can drop anything from 1 gold to 1000-1500 gold every time you open it and it spawns every time. You don’t have to fight mobs to get to it and it inside a town-zone, so you log out immediately, saving you time.
Because you don’t have to fight mobs, the only stat you will need on your gear is gold find. The more GF, the better this is. You can easily get 150-200% for really cheap on the auction house by being patient and look for the bargains.
How to farm Bastion’s Keep like a pro gold farmer
First off, go to the highest difficulty version of Bastion’s Keep you have access to. Get a friend to drop you off in Inferno, Act 3. I like starting with “Heart of Sin – Kill Azmodan”, since I know this from the goldfarming guide, so it’s like a comfy old slipper.
This starts you off in Bastion’s Keep and now it is just a matter of running to Vidar, open the chest and log out. When you resume, you start off in Bastion’s Keep again and once again you run to Captain’s Haille’s supply chest.
As with most goldfarming guides on the site, time not spent killing things or looting gold pushes to gold per hour down. A sure fire way to get more gold per hour, is to move faster, since you then spend less time not getting gold. This is also the case here. Use your class abilities to cover the short distance from the WP to the supply chest. Vault, jump, teleport to get there faster. Remember you can wormhole teleport 4 times with a fast weapon if you spam the teleport button.
The economy of farming Captain Haille’s supply chest
Since the gold drops from the chest are so random, there is of course a huge variance in the gold per hour. If we lowball it and set the average gold per chest loot to 500 gold and we think we can comfortably do 5 runs in a minute, then we are looking at 150k gold per hour. That isn’t too shabby for not really doing anything. And there is huge room for improvement.
When you are in the zone, you can easily do 6-7 runs per minute. That is 390 runs per hour and we might get more than 500 per chest drop, but let’s keep the average as it was before. That would mean 195k per hour just running one chest. But I believe you can do more than 6-7 runs per minute for short periods, so this is perfect for when you have half an hour and just want to do mindless stuff. Then you could push 10 runs per minute, 600 per hour and be looking at 300k per hour or 150k for zoning out and listening to a podcast.
The video demonstrates the technique, but there isn’t much to it:
- Get as much gold find gear as you can get.
- Go to the highest difficulty Bastions’s Keep you can.
- Try to loot the chest as many times per hour as you can.
So there you have it! An almost too easy way to farm gold and I wouldn’t be surprised if this get hotfixed soon. So use it as much as you can!
Or you could always follow the goldfarming guide on the site or the Diablo 3 AH strategy guide if you want to make more per hour. But then you would have to work
Don’t forget to swing by the Diablo3farming Facebook page to join the party and get sneak peeks at content.
Now get chest farming, ya lazy bum!

This post is one month too late to be funny
And this nerfed already actually
There aren’t many zero risk gold farming methods, so that alone counts for something. I am getting mixed results with it, so it all depends on your luck that day.
I thought I’d throw it out there and let people have a go at it, but if you want the highest gold per hour, you are going to have to work for it
In that case, you are much better off running Arreat.
Wow and i thought dank cellar was boring lol
You don’t need to spam the teleport button to use wormhole. Just hold it down and keep your mouse pointed in the direction you want to go. Love this blog; keep up the good work!
Hi.
To be honest, I though about that goldfarming method the first time I went to act 3 in normal but I didn’t think it could be profitable (with a bot perhaps, but not in human mode). But I had no Gold Find, it was in normal mode, I didn’t know that gold would be so important in the game, and I though if nobody did that that’s because it’ was not profitable and very boring to do… so I didn’t try it.
PS: an other method I though about and saw nowhere (perhaps it’s good too
) : Wortham in inferno after the wortham quest is done: there’s no mob and lot of dead bodies/libraries who loot gold)
This actually made me laugh a lot – I CANNOT imagine doing this more than maybe 3-6 times before getting bored. I assume everyone’s thought about it, but just never bothered doing it, for sanity’s sake.
trololol. didnt help anything. Talk about real meyhods.
They are coming. Don’t worry
hahaha
I would go absolutely insane!
so that’s how the gold farmers do it!
