Quick Diablo III iLvl 63 gear farming
…..with some nice gold thrown in for good measure! Yesterday saw the release of patch 1.0.3A that fixed some loot exploits. However, seeing as Diablo III is what you might call a buggy game, there are still plenty of half- and full-on exploits in the game. One of those that did survive is this little beauty, which gives you a chance at rolling some iLvl 63 gear and items.
Take a trip to the Dank Cellar. It is better than it sounds!
This “exploit” takes place in Act 1 and it doesn’t take particular good gear to tackle. It does involve killing and farming a purple, unique mob, more specifically Sarkoth, the quill fiend. He is a unique spawn, that always spawns with the Dank Cellar in Act 1.
The Dank Cellar doesn’t spawn every time you log, but it does have a pretty high spawn rate, in the region of 40-50% of the times. It’s not a new thing in Diablo III, and it is very popular with botters, since it always spawns in the same place, when it does spawn. So use it while you can!
You need to go to act 1, part 2 – Legacy of Cain, Explore the cellar and start.

Diablo III Inferno, act 1 – legacy of Cain, explore the cellar starts you on your way to iLvl 63 stuff and some pretty sweet gold as well.
This starts you off in Tristram, so you need to head to the WP and teleport to “The Old ruins”. You get a checkpoint in the old ruins, when you go there. So subsequent runs start you off in the old ruins.
From the Old ruins you need to run to the left for about 15 seconds and then you get to the Dank Cellar if it has spawned or a boarded up entrance to the cellar. If you get the boarded up cellar, then leave the game and log in again. If you do get the cellar, enter and kill Sarkoth and his minions. He isn’t very hard, but he always drops between 1-3 blue pieces, that are anything from iLvl 50 to iLvl 63, and between 5000-10000 gold. If you are ranged, then you can actually stand just outside the room and shoot him through the door and he won’t do a thing! How’s that for easy loot!
The cellar spawns about 50% of the time and a run with a spawned Dank Cellar takes about 45 seconds from start to finish. If it doesn’t spawn, then it takes around half that. On average, in the beginning, you can do 100 runs in an hour, with 50 runs having a cellar. The lower end of the average gold is 7000, so gold alone would be 350k per hour. If you get better, have better than average gear or can spec for fast running, then you can maybe get 60 dank cellars in an hour and knock the average gold per hour up to 420k. On top of this, you have the items. There is a 2% spawnrate for iLvl 63 weapons in act 1 after patch 1.0.3 and you still need to roll a good iLvl 63 item! However, compared to the other popular guide to gold farming spots, which focus entirely on gold and not itemdrops, you might actually get some good loot from the Dank cellar. In any case you get an extra 500 to 1000 gold for the items that drop and with 40-50 dank cellars an hour, that is an extra 20k to 50k an hour with the 2% to hit the iLvl 63 jackpot.
The video below demonstrates the whole run with and without the Dank cellar spawning. The guy doing the farming is running a barbarian, but unlike other farming spots, there isn’t really any best class for running this.
Spec for speed and DPS whatever your class!
The thing that takes time here is running to the cellar, so spec for anything that allows you to run faster: Vault, Wormhole teleport, sprint whatever. If you can bring down the run time to get to the Dank Cellar, then you go do more runs per hour, yielding you more gold per hour.
You need to be able to take a hit or two on the way there, since you will encounter mobs and might not be able to dodge them. They are only act 1 zombies, so this shouldn’t be an issue.
You will also need a decent DPS to bring down Sarkoth. I run it with 12k unbuffed DPS as a wizard. Nothing fancy and it allows me to go full gold find on most of my gear.
Sarkoth doesn’t melee unless you get right up in his face and his quills don’t hit that hard. However, you do need to able to survive a quill or three, but if you can take a few hits on the way there, then you can also survive the quills.
You can switch out gold find for magic find, since you get 1-3 guaranteed blues per Dank Cellar spawn. However, the main attraction is the gold, so you will probably be better off running gold find instead of magic find.
If you are getting bored of running Arreat crater, then give this one a spin. It really does mean a lot, that you actually have a shot at loot you can use or AH for a decent profit. So I think it is more fun, but it might give you a bit less gold than running Arreat.
Now get farming, ya lazy bum! Oh, and don’t forget to swing by Facebook and join us on the Diablo3Farming FB page. It’s a very exclusive, members-only club….that everyone can join
But they did get a sneakpreview of the video above and you could too!

I usually recycle the blue items (iLvl 61+) for which I have no use and sell the (inferno) essences at the Gold AH for more than 1000 gold…
Nice tip! Yeah, the inferno mats can sell quite well.

my run here
I ran this 35 times today, got 4 spawns of the Dank Cellar. However, on 16 of the runs, I got the Cave Under The Well – which is good for ~10k alone. The Cave will spawn in multiple places around the Dank Cellar spawn point, you don’t need to travel far at all to see it. Oh, I also got the Quality Well twice.
It’s better to start “The Legacy Of Cain” from the beginning. That way you get a checkpoint at the WP. So Walk from New Tristram to the Old Ruins. This way you’re saving time and that means more farming
u mean while doing the wretched queen quest?!
if u actually also kill the wretched queen but dont turn in the quest afterwards u get the spawnpoint right in front of old tristram and don’t have those annoying wretched mothers on the way
i run it with gf/mf gear combined, both around 200% and made 400k / hour, with a wizard teleport wormhole, archon for the kill and around 16k dmg
I ran this place for over 3 hours now since the release on the facebook page and gathered around 300k/hr with average 30 sec runs with cellar opened. Salvaging lvl60 blues gives 1400g for each essence and I got moderatly lucky on some gf and lvl 63 blues which gave me another 200k + more gold. Best spot so far as pure gold running and you still have a chance to get a lvl 63 weapon so this could enhance your gold finding if you are very lucky.
Thank you for the farming tips I love this website
I was sorta hoping this would stay a closer to the chest secret because I don’t want it to get nerfed!
I was doing it in hell mode and got about 100K/hr with only a single yellow drop. That’s with 185% GF
I still don’t think the cellar spawn is 50%, seems lower to me.
I think thay have nerfed this just got 10-12 runs in a row with no spawn of the celler=/
It works post hotfix. I have just run it for 30 minutes and have gotten iLvl 63 and yellows as well. And it even seems that the cellar spawned more than 50% of the time for me, but that is just RNG.
A few other points to make:
Don’t bother checking the body right where you start, in over 500 runs it has never yielded anything for me.
Always hit stumps/bone piles, they seem to have not been affected by the gold nerf. I get 1K+ out of them sometimes.
Same thing with the strong box that sometimes spawns right outside the cellar entrance.
Does this really still work? I just tried it about 10 times, got two spawns, and only about 1k in gold…
this has been nerfed. I used to do this a month ago and get 15-20k gold per run, now i average 2-4k per run and it spawns half as much as it used to.
yeah totally agree.
This spot used to be one of the better ones but got nerfed big time.
First was chest nerfed, now spawn rate and amount of gold drops.
Any recommendations for a good farming spot?
Now that so many spots got nerfed to farm for gold. Are there any good spots left?
Admin would you shed some light on this please?
Since Blizzard is intent on forcing us to use the auction house in order to gear our characters I really hope they stop nerfing anywhere that offers a good farming location. My barb just got mostly ilvl 61-63 gear and i can run all of Act 1 easy mode with gf/mf gear and still down Butcher sub two minutes. I suppose for now I will content myself with Warden/Butcher runs until I can farm Act III, Act II is just too terrible to farm.
The reason for the nerf is that it’s too easy to program a bot to perform simple function for hours/days on end.
They want you to play the game to get gold/gear with risk of dying so that it would be impossible to program a bot to do it (it would just keep dying) They want to make it difficult so that bots can no longer farm 400-500K w/o risk and on auto pilot. IMO anyways
